FINAL REFLECTION

Final Reflection

Content and Knowledge

Believe it or not I have learned more in this class than in any other class this semester or possibly ever.  I have never understood genres until this semester.  I learned tons about children's literature.  I have learned about what kinds of books are appropriate at what age level and I have learned how to hook a student's interest in the book.  I believe I have also learned through hands on experience what works well in the classroom and what does not.  I am glad to have taken this class and gained so much knowledge about children's literature.

Skills and Strategies
I think the most important skill I have learned this semester is how to use the library as a resource.  I had never been to the library before this semester, and I am surprised at how much I was missing out on.  I have learned how to access information quickly and efficiently.  Another skill I have acquired this semester is how to deal with real students in real situations in lit circles.  Sarah and I had a few challenges, but the time we had with the students allowed us to understand how to deal with everyday challenges.  I really enjoyed working with these children.

Independence and Confidence
Well, Since I have had the opportunity this semester to take my education into my own hands and control my learning, I have become much more independant.  I have learned how to efficiently read and learn materials much quicker.  Since I feel like I have gained so much knowledge, my confidence level has also increased as I can discuss genres and leterary elements with ease and understanding.

Use of Prior and Emerging Experience
I didnt have a lot of prior experience to work with, but I did have some.  I have read many many many childrens books and have been interested in many authors for a while, but I have never studied them.  This semester I was given the motivation to study more about the books and authors and feel like I have much more experience to offer for next semester.

Critical Reflection
This class have given me so much opportunity to dig within myself and pull out the long lost child inside.  I have had a great time in this class and have enjoyed it thoroughly.  Not only did I gain valuable knowledge, but I had fun doing it.  I enjoyed working with the sixlets and gained experience.  This class has been awesome.
