During this semester, I have found that Historical Fiction is amazing. It allows chileren
or anyone to live in the times and places from the past as long as they are into a story. Without Historical Fiction,
there is virtually no other way for a person to feel as they are living in the lives of peple of another era. These
stories provide lived in experience that encourages the developent of attitudes that in turn can lead to an appreciation of
other different than themselves in the world.
Some well known Historical Fiction stories are: Titanic: This gave many people
insight of life on the Titanic as it sank. Very realistic storyline built around the historical truth. This is
a fantastic story.
Animal Farm: Also a historical piece about animals that took over a farm. A political
Satire of the real Napolean story.
We Were Soldiers. A movie with Mel Gibson depicting life during the civil war.
The story line was fictional but the war was very real.
Passion of the Christ: This could be controversial as some do not believe the crusifiction
for Jesus, but for Christion is is a very real story, Of course the story line is different, but it is about the real
events that happened to Jesus, historically.
The Scarlett Letter: A story depicting what may have happened to a woman who committed
adultery in a past world and her punishment for doing so. This book was also made into a movie with Demi Moore.
A great story.
All of these stories provide readers or viewers to be a part of the lives of someone
from another era. I think Historical is extremely important in portraying some of the past tragedies in today's times.
